AUGUST

Friday, Aug. 6                          Backpack to School Program - GRC is handing out backpacks and school supplies to needy families on Friday, August 6 from 2 pm to 4 pm, (while they last).  We handed out 130 backpacks.

 

Saturday, Aug. 7                      Thunder on the Lot Appreciation Dinner

                                                We received $10,000.00 dollars from Kids Charities of the AV

 

Sunday, Aug. 22 & 29               Antelope Valley Fair

GRC will be collecting canned food for free admission to the fair.  6 cans per person.  Volunteers needed.

 

Monday, Aug. 30                      P.O.W.E..R. Class Graduation

Graduation lunch at GRC.  Starts at 11:30 am catered in-house by John Cooper, Gail Possert, and Lynda Elmes.  Volunteers needed at 9 am for set-up and lunch help, talk to Gail to sign up.

Wednesday, Sept. 15                POWER Class I and II Start:

Both 9 week Power Classes will begin on Sept. 15th.  Power I (9am to 12 pm) taught by Gail Possert and Power II  (2pm – 4pm) taught by Bill Bennett.  Students must complete Power I before starting Power II.

 

Saturday, Sept. 18                    Gracefest AV

Large Christian concert held at the Palmdale Amphitheater at 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd., Palmdale. (Marie Kerr Park) Gates open at 12:00 pm, Event start at 12:00 pm. Blankets, lawn chairs, beach umbrellas and coolers are permitted.  Beach umbrellas permitted until 5:30 pm. Saturday, Sept. 18                    Antelope Valley Rubber Duck Race:

                                                The race is on Saturday, September 18th at the DryTown Water Park, 6pm to 9pm.  GRC

is one of the charities that benefit from the fundraiser.  Go to www.duckrace.com/antelopevalley and under teams select Grace Resource Center.  Adopt one duck for $5 or a Quack Pack of $20.  GRC gets $2.00 for each duck.  There are chances to win prizes for participants including $1,000,000!

OCTOBER

Month of October                     Warm Coats & Warm Hearts Program

Annual coat distribution program.  Volunteers needed to sort and organize coats.  Donations of gently used coats start in October.   If you have coats you would like to donate of if you’d like to volunteer please contact Lynda Sue.  This program runs through February.

Monday, October 4                   2010 100 Hole Golf Challenge

18th Annual Golf Marathon at Tierra Del Sol in California City.  45 Golfers needed, for more information contact Lynda Sue or Steve Baker

 

Thursday, Oct. 7                       Senior Expo’ 2010

All day event at the Fairgrounds from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.  This year’s theme is Broadway Musicals, GRC has Grease.  Costumes are encouraged if working the GRC booth.  Volunteers needed, please talk to Lynda Sue.

 

Thursday, October 7                 Volunteer Potluck

11:30 am in the dinning room at GRC.  Staff and volunteers sit down and enjoy a potluck together.

 

Monday, October 15                 Columbus Day

GRC Closed

 

Friday, October 15                    Boss Day

This is a holiday where the only person who shows up to work is the boss and the rest of the staff get the day off (yeah right)!

 

Tuesday, October 19                Golf Appreciation Dinner

Held at GRC, dinner and awards given to golf participants.  Dinner starts at 6:30 pm and ends at 8 pm.  Volunteers needed for event preparation and food service.  Please see Lynda Sue for more details.

NOVEMBER

2 day radio telethon to raise money for the 2500 Thanksgiving Baskets GRC distributes.  Radio station TBD.  Different levels of sponsorships available.  Each basket sponsorship is $25.00.  Baskets provide Thanksgiving Dinner for a family of 4 to 6.

 

Saturday, Nov. 6                       Yes 2 Kids Pancake Breakfast

Held at GRC, pancake breakfast fundraiser for Yes 2 Kids, a non profit organization that raises money and awareness to prevent child abuse.  Cost of breakfast is $5.00.  Breakfast runs from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.  For more information contact Norma Valdez at (661) 948-4661 ext. 243.

Sign ups from 8 am to 12 pm at Grace Resource Center for the Thanksgiving Baskets.  Volunteers needed to sign up clients, please contact John Cooper.

 

Friday, Nov. 19                         Thanksgiving Bag Assembly Night:

2500 Thanksgiving bags assembled from 7 pm to 1 pm at GRC’s parking lot.  Volunteers needed, please contact John Cooper

 

Saturday, Nov. 20                     Thanksgiving Basket Handout:

DECEMBER

 

Dec. 1st  to 22nd                         Toy Assistance Program:

GRC helps close to 1,000 children with toys.  Working with DCFS, Penny Lane, Migrant Education Department and other churches, schools, and organization, GRC collects, organizes and distributes toys, food and occasionally Christmas trees.  Volunteers needed, please contact Lynda Sue

 

Friday, Dec. 3                           Holiday Tree Lighting Hospitality Walk:

Christmas themed event held on Lancaster Blvd.  50 Christmas trees are set up by local schools and decorated.  These trees are then distributed to GRC families.  Families receive certificates that correspond with the numbered trees.  Great family event.  This year GRC is helping the AV Chamber with cookies, candy and hot coco.

 

Saturday, Dec. 4                       Girl Scout Food Drive and Toy Order Filling:

Annual Girl Scout food drive and work day at GRC.  Will fill toy orders for families.

 

Saturday, date TBD                  Jingle Bell Jog:

5K Run at Marie Kerr park for beginner as well as avid walkers and runners.  Participants dress up as their favorite Christmas character or object (presents, reindeer, Christmas trees, etc.).  GRC receives food and money. 

 

Sat. or Sun., date TBD              Santa Metrolink EXPRESS:

Santa arrives on the Metrolink.  Trains decorated with light show.  GRC hands out free hot chocolate, cookies, candy and brochures.  We usually receive about 150 in donations and it’s a great community P/R event and our way of saying “thanks” to the community.  The city of Lancaster loves that we do this for free.   Volunteers needed, please contact Lynda Sue.
